Simple Shape, Bright Finish
This deck in Middlesex, NJ needed a reset—not just a few boards replaced, but a full rebuild from the ground up. The homeowner wanted something clean, functional, and easier to use. As a trusted local deck contractor, we started by removing everything—the old deck, the substructure, and even the attached storage shed—to make room for a new layout. The existing footings were solid, so we reused them to help keep the project efficient. The new deck was sized to a clean 37′ by 15′ rectangle, now sitting at the same level as the home’s sliding glass door. We removed the lower platform near the garage and replaced it with a new staircase leading directly from the deck to the ground. Cottage Grey was chosen for both the main decking and perimeter boards, with white fascia, risers, and stringers to frame it all out. A privacy lattice skirt in white was added underneath to keep the space clean and enclosed. For a final touch, we installed solar post cap lights along the railings for subtle lighting at night. It’s a great example of what’s possible when you work with a deck installation contractor who knows how to keep it simple and get the details right.
