Back to Black
Our recent project in Neptune City, NJ, involved a full roof replacement of architectural shingles. We started by removing all existing roofing materials to reveal the wood decking underneath, ensuring a solid foundation for the new roofing system. We installed Onyx Black shingles from the Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration® line. These shingles are known to hold up against algae growth.
Since this house has a gable vented style, no ridge vent was needed per NJ Building Code. For the low-pitch sections, we applied a mod-bit low-slope self-adhered membrane with a matching black cap sheet to provide excellent protection. The project also included replacing the skylights to improve both functionality and aesthetics. To enhance the overall look, we chose white gutters and soffits, creating contrast with the black shingles.
